Cozy Corner

Welcome to Cozy Corner, a personally curated collection of products chosen to bring a little more comfort, care, and ease to everyday life.

Everything shared here has been selected by me because I use it, trust it, and believe it can genuinely support women navigating midlife and menopause.

Midlife can change the way our skin feels, the way makeup sits, and what our bodies need. Sometimes that means reconsidering the products and routines that have served us well in the past and finding what works for us now.

Nothing here is about needing to fix or improve the woman you have become. It is simply about finding products that work with your changing body and help you feel more comfortable in your own skin. Because self-care isn’t a luxury.

Skincare in Midlife

If your skin suddenly feels different in midlife, you are not imagining it.

As estrogen levels decline through perimenopause and menopause, changes begin happening within the skin itself. Estrogen plays a role in collagen production, hydration, elasticity, skin thickness, and the way our skin barrier functions. As those levels change, skin can become drier, thinner, more sensitive, and less able to hold onto moisture. We may also begin to notice changes in texture, firmness, fine lines, or how quickly our skin recovers.

At the same time, our skin is also aging with us. Sun exposure, genetics, stress, sleep, lifestyle, and environment all contribute too. Menopause does not suddenly “age” our skin overnight, but it can accelerate or amplify some of the changes we were already beginning to experience.

For me, that meant reconsidering what I was using and reaching for skincare that felt more supportive of the skin I have now — plant-based products that focus on hydration, nourishment, barrier support, and helping my skin feel comfortable and cared for.

Waterless Beauty & Internals

Waterless beauty was a completely new concept to me.

Most traditional skincare products are formulated primarily with water. Waterless beauty takes a different approach by replacing much of that water base with concentrated botanical ingredients.

The products I use are centred around the olive tree and an olive-leaf cell elixir naturally rich in hydroxytyrosol, a powerful antioxidant. What appealed to me was the idea of replacing water — which acts mainly as a carrier in a formulation — with something that contributes antioxidant benefits instead.

Because the formulas are concentrated, less is more. You typically need much less product than you would with conventional skincare, which was another part of the philosophy that really resonated with me.

In midlife, when our skin can become drier, more sensitive, and more demanding of hydration and barrier support, I became much more intentional about what I was using. For me, waterless beauty is not about adding more steps. It’s about choosing fewer, more concentrated products that feel supportive of my midlife skin.

Makeup for Midlife Skin

Makeup can start to sit differently on the skin in midlife.

As skin becomes drier, thinner, or more textured, some formulas can begin to settle into fine lines, emphasize dryness, or feel heavier on the skin. That is one of the reasons I have come to appreciate makeup that is creamy, generously pigmented, and easy to blend.

The professional makeup products I use are designed to work beautifully with the skin rather than simply sit on top of it. Cream-based blushes and contours, lightweight complexion products, buildable coverage, and gorgeous eye and brow options can all help create a more natural-looking finish that feels comfortable on mature skin.

For me, the goal is not to cover up my age. It is to use makeup in a way that feels fresh, flattering, and easy to use. Makeup does not need to be complicated. It just needs to work with the skin we have now.

Hormone Health Support

Midlife can bring changes that are not always visible on the outside. Sleep, energy, stress resilience, and our overall sense of well-being can shift, and symptoms can all become part of the menopause experience.

That is why I have become much more interested in products designed specifically with women’s changing needs in mind.

The hormone health and wellness products I recommend are ones I have chosen because they are created to support some of the common needs women may experience at different stages of life. I appreciate that they are developed around specific concerns rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach to women’s wellness.

I am also a big supporter of Shala’s mission and the work they are doing to help women feel more informed, supported, and better equipped through all stages of life.

For me, it is about having thoughtful options available that may offer additional support alongside the other things we do to care for ourselves.

Shala products are currently available in Canada and the United States.
